Sherrie-lee Evans

Expert Member – Australia (September, 2004)

A qualified archaeologist, with 20 years experience in natural and cultural resource management in the New South Wales National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS); heritage planning and assessment work with the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) and the British Antarctic Survey (BAS). Holds a Masters in Museum Studies with professional skills and experience in exhibition development, collection and project management, including cataloguing and database management in museum, archive and library settings, detailed knowledge of the history of Antarctic exploration and science and relevant experience in researching Antarctic history; coupled with a practical understanding and experience of the polar regions and some of the scientific research organisations that work in these regions.

Research projects/interests

The history of cultural heritage management in the Antarctic and sub-Antarctic and the influence of perceptions of Antarctica on policy. Current project – researching and writing a biography of Dr Archibald Lang McLean of Mawson’s Australasian Antarctic Expedition (AAE) of 1911 to 1914, which will include McLean’s Antarctic diary and photographs.
