New polar heritage book for a Chinese audience
In Shanghai in May a small book entitled “Polar cultural heritage – Too important to lose” was presented at an international conference on Arctic research. The book, written by IPHC member Susan Barr, is a general introduction to cultural heritage and to the heritage in the Arctic and Antarctic. It is intended particularly to inform Chinese tourists and others traveling to and in the polar regions about the significance of the modest heritage sites they will see there together with the threats currently facing the sites and the methods that can help to preserve them from increasing natural and human impact. The book has a twin text in Chinese and English with c. 100 illustrations in each. It is unfortunately currently only available in China, but the author hopes to be able to publish it outside China through cooperation with a western publisher.
